Alex Measure’s official title is “Economist” at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and yet his work focuses on leveraging Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to create reports on workplace injuries. Thanks to Alex’s work, BLS found that ML outperforms humans in classifying injury data. Accordingly, about 85% of all codes and classifications are assigned by neural networks today. Alex talks about how BLS’s digital transformation toward ML involved the creation of a gold standard and the importance of getting teams engaged, comfortable, and confident in AI.
